How to evaluate a breeder

A practical way to compare sellers using evidence instead of impressions.

Start with the profile

A trustworthy profile shows who the seller is, where they operate, how long they have bred, and what they have documented. Look at which items are verified by the platform and which are seller-provided.

Read the Quality Score, not just the stars

The score has five sections: verification and credentials (25), animal health and documentation (30), customer service (20), marketplace activity (15) and ethical breeding (10). A strong total can hide a weak section that matters to you.

Questions to ask

  • Can I see the parents, or their records?
  • What testing was done, by whom, and when?
  • What is your policy if the animal has a problem?
  • Can I speak with a past buyer or your vet?
  • Will you put the terms in writing?

Expect transparency

Good breeders welcome questions and visits (in person or by video). Hesitation to share records is itself information.
